well i really dont know who all is going to be fighting besides the wonderboy and jason reeves- zack day and bartinelli!! and i havent really seen day and bartinelli fight but here is my thought on the wonderboy/jason reeves fight!! i think that jason reeves better have some running shoes on if he wants to survive this fight!!! the wonderboy has youth and speed plus raw talent and i just dont think that jason reeves will be able to keep up!! jason reeves is 35 years old and as i know myself you slow down with age!!! so jason better bring his oxygen tank to survive!!! and i have never seen bartinelli fight but i have seen zack day fight before so i predict that he will when by decision!! i will be waiting to hear from the jason reeves fans in reply!!! wonderboy by KO!! bottom line!!!! peace out!!! mouth of the south

C'mon, you call THAT "trash"! HA! My Christian, virgin, spinster aunt can spew trash talk better then that! :p

I'll add to that........... I have never seen Reeves or Wonderboy fight but have talked to many that have, and I agree with you. I think Jason will be going down fast. How old is the wonderboy? Age does slow you down, even if you don't realize it's happening... IT HAPPENS EVEN WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED. There is enough age difference to allow for some major butt whoopin'.

What rules are they fighting? FC? I've learned also that depending on what your main background is in, will determine alot of the outcome also or at least how you hold up. There are some systems that just plain train a fighter a little better then others.........

I side with muay thai as one of the strongest foundations for a strong kickboxer.............. c'mon, let's hear all of the comebacks to that! :p

o.k. i guess that was weak trash talking but i was just trying to get someone talking trash!! the wonderboy is 21 and trains religiosly!!!! jason reeves is 14 years older and that is alot!! they are fighting full contact rules!! reeves will be lucky to make it out of the first round UNLESS the wonderboy wants to get some more rounds under his belt!!!! i have a question since we are on this subject!! WHY ARE ALL OF THESE SO CALLED PRO'S "AFRAID" TO FIGHT HIM?? is it because he is just getting started as a pro or are they really scared?? i think they are scared!!!!!but jason reeves will go down and go down hard!! bottom line!!!! like it or not!!! peace out!! mouth of the south

I'm sure the pros are scared. Wouldn't you be? What established pro fighter wants to get embarassed by a young pro with only a couple of pro fights (or no fights)? Those guys have nothing to gain (except experience fighting a freaking awesome fighter) and everything to lose.

dont count anyone out due to age. look at Hoost in the k-1 he's almost 40 and he still kicks the younger guys ass . experience still means alot. so Jason might not win but he may sock you all on the fight he gives

Seems to me that the pros at the top are in a no-win situation. "Do I defend my title (or get in the ring at all) against "Joe Lunch-Box" with a record of 28-13 who was a big deal in 1989? Or do I fight the up-and-coming amatuer champ with 2 pro fights? One choice makes it look like you're padding your record & the other choice makes it look like you're giving in to pressure to give the kid a shot.

The reality is there are few fighters really at the top. Fighters fight because they love it, not cuz Brinks is gonna roll an armoured car up to their front door. One thing is for sure, you had better be in top shape when you get in the with the hungry kid. And you never know, B.J. Lavota may still have one good fight in him.

This is true Tom, but I think as a Fighter you have to stay active, even if sometimes it means taking lower money for the odd fight. Because as you said the hungry kid will always be up for it, and if you havent fought for a year or 18mths beacause of a lack of challengers, you aint gonna be half as sharp as you should be, and that kids gonna knock you the f**K out!

Reeves is 35? And he is going against a 21yr old "WonderBoy"? Hmmmmmmmmm, he either has gotten hit in the head one time too many or he is just plain silly. How long has it been since Reeves has fought?

I don't care WHO you are, once you hit 35, things change, whether you want them to or not! You may have experience, you may still be tough, but the truth is, after so many years of training, fighting, and just plain aging, your body tends to slow down a little bit and that isn't always obvious until you put yourself up against someone younger and more agile.

That's just MY opinion. :D

you are right pammy!!! reeves better wear head gear!!! lol  and he better take his geritol!! i just dont see him lasting too long in this fight!! i havent seen him fight but stephen will be on him like white on rice!!!! i am also over 35 and i know for a fact that you slow down!!! way down!!! jason reeves better have someone waiting at ringside with a walker to help him get away from the ring!!! lmao :D  peace out!!! mouth of the south

On the other hand.... Look at Bernard Hopkins. He's pushin' 40 & shows no signs of slowing down. I have no idea if Reeves lets himself go between fights. Hopkin's walkin' around weight is about 2-3 lbs. different than his fighting weight. That's really hard to do especially when you make $1 or $2 million per fight. I know its gotta be even harder when you have to train around a full time job (I assume Reeves has one).

I don't know Reeves & I've never seen him fight. But I have seen Thompson fight. If Reeves wants to win he'd better bring his best stuff that day.

here we go, i train under jason i know he has been training hard for this fight and yes it has been awhile since he has been in the ring but i guess nov 6 we will see whos the hungriest because age has nothing to do with it. its all heart in the ring

Cody:
I'm not saying that Reeves doesn't have a chance or that he doesn't deserve to get in the ring w/ Thompson or anybody else. All I'm saying is that the older you get the harder it is.
Best of Luck to both fighters.

OK, OK, now I have to get my 2 cents in here also. When I fought last I was 34. I fought 7 rounds for a PKL U.S. Middleweight title (I know, PKL??, smaller sanctioning body based out of St.Lious I think, but a fight is a fight). My point is I was 34, my opponent was about 10 years younger, and I was faster, quicker, better conditioned, and fought smarter. I felt like I could have gone 7 more rounds. I was only a month from turning 35 (that magical # which my wife says is when EVERYONE slows down) and I felt great! After that fight, I quit fighting (not to mention, the promoter and commissioner of the PKL, or whatever, never asked me to defend it...I think they were pissed because they thought for sure their 'home town boy' was gonna win), not because I was getting old and slow, but because as I got older, the recovery time after the fights got longer and longer. After that fight, it took over a month for my shins and feet to heal up.

As Tom said, look at Hoost, and even McDonald...those guys are over 40 or pushing 40 and still forces to reckon with. I do have to wonder if they take longer to recover as well.

Pam and I have had this conversation before about age and fighting, sooo.....I began training serious again this month, and in 4 months I will be looking to get back in the ring again. I am 37 now, and I feel I can fight through to 40. So, all you Pro light middle weights, in all three rules divisions, look out...cause I am coming back and I WILL be on a mission!

Peace, Pete

To Cody,
i don't know you or jason but on the old message board a very good question came up, WHO HAS HE FOUGHT?
i dont mean big names, i mean, WHO, WHEN?
please ask jason for the last few times he fought, let us know so we can have an idea what he may be like as a fighter. i find it strange that no one in the south has EVER seen him fight or HEARD about a fight he was in. so cody, do some homework for us son, give us some names here. or are you afraid to do so?

To Cody: I am not saying Jason isn't a "good" fighter, or wasn't even a "great" fighter at one time (if we could find out WHO and WHEN he fought, we may have a better idea now, wouldnt we.. ), however, the longer it takes to get back in the ring, the more his mind is gonna "forget" how quick a young kid is.

We play the drills over and over in our head, we spar round after round with training partners who we KNOW won't seriously harm us because if we are harmed, WE CANT FIGHT! Oh My Gosh, that makes me seriously concerned now............. "what if" Jason is injured in his training for this totally awesome fight? He won't be able to fight, will he! I sure hope he is picking his training partners wisely, cause I'm sure the guy that would possibly injure him while sparring and make it so he couldn't fight would feel totally rotten taking that chance away from Jason!! :D

Pete,

As you stated yourself, it takes LONGER to heal and mend after a fight now vs. when you were in your "youth". You fought last at 34 (ALMOST 35  )......... you may be training every day now and sparring students, but you are not training with someone your caliber nor someone at professional level....

Honestly.... My concern is NOT that you can't do it, cause I have seen you in action, I KNOW you can do it............ My concern is how much am I gonna have to listen to you complain while you do mend from the fight?!!? And also during the "training" while you can't have your daily 12pack of Pepsi??!?! ;)

Ok.............. everyone else............. we all know some "Greats" that are still fighting and winning at 40+.............. but we also know that the mind is our strongest weapon...... how many of those fights do you think were (honestly) lost before being started because the younger guy wasn't totally mentally backing himself?

Things can go both ways.......... the older guy doesnt realize how much he's slowed down or the younger guy is so nervous about going up against such a great opponent that he psyches himself out.

Well Honey, All I can say is watch and learn baby! I had my last Pepsi a few hours ago, and I will be traveling to train with greats like Dean Lessei, Mick Doyle, Ryan Blackorby, Dave Rogers, Raul Llopis, and Jeremy Harminson as the months go on. I am taking this serious so be prepared. OH, and while I am kicking this Pepsi habit, just so you are forewarned.....I will be an ass for a few days....DEAL WITH IT! :D

One more thing....I am getting faster, not slower with age...like a fine bottle of wine! ;) So I don't really care how old or young my future opponents will be...We will 'git it on'!
