Hey guys,

I was traveling last night and did not get to see the fight. When I turned it on all I saw was Mora being awarded the win. I am surprised, I thought Regan would win, for a few different reasons. Who saw the fight, and can you give me some idea what happened?

Thanks,

I went to it. To be totally honest, it wasn't even close. Regan seemed tight (maybe because it was nationally televised) and he didn't use his height advantage at all. Mora was pretty slick. Regan through a lot of crosses and hooks, but didn't really establish his jab like he could have. He just pawed with it and Mora was able to get inside and let his hands go. It was really to bad. I would have really liked to see Regan do well.

I wanted Regan to win big. But he just went through the motions. No snap, no big power shots. Just following Mora around the ring and getting hit. He is 6'4. He should have stayed on the outside and caught Mora coming in, instead of walking into Moras range and getting himself caught coming in...

Yes, I only saw one short clip of the fight, and Regan seemed to be standing straight up, throwing short, tight punches, and missing over Mora's head. I also saw Mora throwing upward, angled punches that were landing on Regan as he came in to Regan. I am surprised and disappointed as all of you are. Not in Regan's performance, as I do not know him, but in my own expectations for the outcome. I have heard great things about Regan, and was wishing he would perform as he has in the past. I was really hoping for a knockout, with Regan's record, and having seen Mora fight on the Contender. Plus, the kickboxer vs. boxer angle, I wanted to see some respect earned for us kickboxers. This did not happen last night, as I had hoped.

I was super surprised he didn't own Mora with his jab as Brian mentioned. Right when they started I thought to myself, his jab should win this fight. NOPE.

Another thing for TV watchers. I have mentioned this to some friends, but did you see the commercials? Just for men and prostate commercials. Check out the UFC commercials.
Boxing is dying because they are catering to old people. No offense to people with prostate problems or who use just for men. But come on. Boxing needs to sort their stuff out if they want to compete. How about inserting one young announcer who kids can relate to?

Don't advertisers go where they think they have a market? Apparently they think they have a market for that stuff during the fights. I don't really remember what commercials were on. Personally I just tune in to watch the fights, not the commercials. And I'm not that old. Boxing isn't dying, I mean you are talking about it.... and this is a kickboxing message board. You are talking about a kickboxer who quit that sport to go into boxing. I like announcers who are not bias and who know what they are talking about. I don't care if kids like them or not.

I'd like to offer a dissenting opinion, of course. I'm kinda glad he got it handed to him on national tv. I'd heard he was a good fighter, and was supposed to fight him many years ago in kickboxing, but my opinion of him and everyone associated with him went into the toilet after the debacle that was his last scheduled kickboxing fight.

Maybe everyone is gonna blast me for not knowing what I'm talking about, which is fine, but it seemed to me that everyone involved was ok with setting him (a long-time pro boxer and champion kickboxer, with 50 pro bouts under his belt) up to fight a kid making his pro debut.

Cheap, lame, and classless, all the way around, regardless of how many fights you want to tell me the AMATEUR fighter had.

Word.

Good Points Greg, I am getting off the point a bit, but look at PPV numbers, TV ratings and a$$es in seats. UFC is whipping boxing's rear. I am just saying they could do little things to make it more entertaining. It is awesome to have Teddy Atlas, but have someone with him who brings something to the table for excitement.

You might not notice commercials, but that is a good indication of who is buying stuff and what kind of money is involved.

Greg do you watch the UFC on spike?
Next question, that Xience girl is HOT isn't she?! Wait that is a statement.

Anyway, compare commercials next time. It is very telling. I remember the Xience commercial anyone else?

How about boxing puts some money into building their fighters and have them on commercials?

Just food for thought.

Hey fight geek I watch all fighting sports - Boxing, kickboxing, mma. Yeah the xyience girl is hot but seems like they show those commercial too much. As far as UFC outdoing boxing I don't really understand that that statement. There might be some UFC pay per views outdoing some boxing ppv's but that doesn't seem to cover the whole picture. When there are ESPN2 friday night fights, and spanish tv fights, and showtime fights and hbo fight and fox sports fights all showing boxing on the same weekend then I'd have to say that there must be some interest in boxing.

I would agree there are too many ppv boxing events. I'm a big fight fan but I'm not going to pay money to watch a lot of these events. However somebody must be watching them otherwise supply & demand would put a stop to it.

Hey Randy Pogue who was the amateur that Regan was supposed to fight?

I believe his name was Tommy Alcanzar Jr from Texas. Seemed like a big mismatch to me also.

I humbly apologize. I meant more in terms of advertising and it is fine to have those commercials, but you have to cater to everyone.

I sort of sound like a tool from how I phrased that about old people. I will say they should cater to people under 30 more. That way Earl you and I both are old!!!!!!

See you Saturday!
