Simon Buettner's first bout was against a much taller, thicker Italian. Simon fought his heart out, landing kicks and delivering body hits. Both fighters were spent after three full rounds of back and forth action. The judges ruled the bout for the Italian.

Sarah Ross fought a girl from Great Britian first. Sarah delivered 3 standing 8 counts to the girl. Sarah was just about to land a spinning back kick, when the Ref jumped in, stopping the fight. Winner by TKO in round 1 - Ross.
Sarah's next opponent was a Russian girl named Nelli. Nelli was taller than Sarah and had a further reach on Sarah. Sarah was able to side kick and round kick her opponent, but the reach was too much at the advantage of the Russian, not allowing Sarah to get in. The fight went the entire 3 rounds, but the decision went to the Russian. Nelli ended up winning the Championship. Sarah came home with the Bronze Medal. This was Sarah's first career loss, her record now standing 20/1/3.

Nathan Key first fought Dzenan Aljkic from (BIH) (Bosnia?). This bout was ended in round 1 by TKO - Nathan the winner. Nathan then fought in the semi finals (A Russian I believe) and after 3 hard rounds, Nathan was declared the winner. Nathan advanced to the finals. Fighting another Russian, Nathan was all business. Delivering damaging kicks, and landing hard punches. He was clean and technical. Sadly, the judges saw it for the Russian and Nathan was awarded the silver medal.

Each of these kids fought their hearts out, and represented the United States very well. Hopefully this will open up more opportunities for these kids, as well as others, to fight overseas. A job well done also to Rob Zbilski for heading the team, and for Mark Gruebel assisting in the coaching. Also to Bill Ross for cornering the fighters. This has been a long, exhausting and emotional week for all the team and thier families, welcome them home and share thier joy.

Please note that there were other US team members from light contact, semi contact, kata's, etc. also representing the United States. I congratulate all of them also, for a job well done!!
