What If?

Over the years there were a lot of great fights that many in the fight game as well as the fans "Wished" would have happened. some that come to mind were Dennis Alexio Vs Rick Roufus in a full contact rule style match-up. This has probably been the most talked about "I wish they would have fought" bouts in history. It's also the one so many have brought up to us over the years.

There were several offers put on the table, the last being in 1999, but it just never happened. Alexio retired a few years back but Rick is still in the ring. Makes you wonder, if it happened.... Who would have won that bout?

what other "What If'" bouts can you think of to share here?

I will be vain here but I dreamed of fighting Bob "Thunder" Thurman...one of the baddest fighters of his time... for many years! I had his picture on my walls, passed out thousands of flyers, called him out after TV fights and still did not get this fight!

Instead, I got the chance at Prouder...but I still wanted Thurman and the opportunity just never came!

Now trust me, I know how tough this fight would have been for me...very tough and in retrospect, I think he might have beaten me at the time I beat Prouder...although I was in great shape...but lacked hand power. My tech. and movement might have save me and allowed me to outpoint him.

However, after I trained with Jean Yves a couple of times who by the way was the person to finally stop Thurman, I knew I had the power and all around tech. to beat him if not knock him out...before Jean Yves did it. Now, is that honest enough?...just having fun! It's great to think about what could have been! :)

I will regret forever that this fight did not happen but too...why I would like to try and make these opportunities for others...but clearly it very difficult!

Maybe today, we can do a wheelchair fight! :)

I think my number one "what if" would have been,

Maurice Smith vs Dennis Alexio

It would have been a great fight. Smith would have won.

Not to brag about being a fight geek, but ok, I will, and I regarding Bob Thurman and Jean Yves Theriaul, I have BOTH of their fights on tape. The one from Karatemania and the UBER difficult one to find from France.
Just needed to brag a bit.
If anyone has Bill Wallace vs Blinky Rodgriguez on tape...we need to talk. I need that fight.

I definatly agree about Dennis Alexio vs Rick Roufus.

Dennis is sort of a hero to me. I am now a Kickboxer because of him. (sorta) When I was little, I watched the film "Kickboxer" so many times. When I found out that Mr. Alexio was a real fighter, I learned everything I could about him. He's still one of my favorite Kickboxers. I train in Muay Thai/Kickboxing, but I train to fight in MT and Full Contact Rules. (what can I say, I love FCR)

Well, I think Dennis would have defeated Rick in an FCR bout. Why? Better punches, his combo's were great, and he definatly had mad knockout power. Also his spinning back kick was probably the strongest in the Kickboxing world.

Just my opinon.

when roufas was younger he was an unbelievable kicker...
i think the the jet would have given alexio a great fight but rick started out a much smaller guy....


the blinky -superfoot fight was not as good as advertised.......
