I think something truly amazing was accomplished over the weekend. In fact, this kid is a new hero of mine and I truly believe he has set an example for, and issued a challenge to the entire sport of kickboxing.
I'm talking about 14 yr old Michael Reid of Minooka, IL.

I want to congratulate Reid as the first triple crown winner in modern day kickboxing.
2008 TBA Muay Thai Classic - 14-15 yrs Welterweight Champion
2008 IKF World Classic - 14-15 yrs Welterweight IR Champion
2008 KICK/WAKO Nationals - 14-15 Welterweight Champion
Not only did he win 3 tournaments this summer, but he won 3 tournaments that were held over a 4 week time span. My hat goes off to Reid for his accomplishment and to his trainers and parents for supporting him through his journey.
I hear the European fighters are so good and have such impressive records because they fight in tournaments almost every weekend. My challenge to U.S. Kickboxing is to stop choosing which tournaments to attend and instead, embrace them all!
Will we have more "Triple Crown" winners in '09? Who's next?
