I would like to thank Mr. Russ O'Connell for putting on a good show last night in Waterloo, IA. I took some of my fighters and they all learned some valuable lessons. Jerica Veach (Team Singto) age 14 (2004 IKF NAC IR Champ) defeated Andrea Sacarello by Unanimous decision in a FCR bout, Andy Brandl (Team Singto) lost by decision to Tim Gorham (Team Doyle) in their men's IR bout, Lauren Herrig (Team Singto) age 14 (2004 IKF NAC IR Champ) dominated Ann Graf age 17 (Team RoundKick) in their IR exhibition bout, Jaden Veach (Team Singto) age 11 dominated J.T. Miller (Team Roundkick) age 11 in their IR exhibition bout, Kayla Carpenter (Team Singto) age 12 and Naomi Ferguson (Team Roundkick) age 13 battled hard in their IR exhibition bout and Henry Bierman (Team Singto) lost by K.O. to Sam Winberg in their men's IR bout. The feature bout had Marshal Blevins (Team Militech) defeating Rob Wiley (Team Doyle) by unanimous decision in their IR bout. The main event had Nate Mohr winning the FCR belt by defeating his opponent out of Minnesota by unanimous decision. It was a busy night for me and I apologize for not having all the bout results and names of fighters. Russ puts on a great show. I look forward to his next one. It was nice to meet Jason "the fight geek" at the show as well. Great night of fights.

I would like to "second" all of that. Russ O'Connell put on a great show. That was My first time at one of Russ's shows and I can say I would like to take my team back again. There were a lot of great fights and they all ran pretty smooth. IT was good to see Mike and Terri Storm again, Mike did a great job at reffing the IR bouts. Looking forward to seeing you again in Omaha next month Mike and Terri! As far as Team Roundkick goes, J.T. Miller (age 10) made his debut (IR) against Jaden Veach (Team Singto). J.T. took a couple hard shots to the midsection which stopped him. But I am happy to say he was back in class today and ready to "train seriously". Dave Mulbauer (age 21) made his debut (IR) against Riley Herman (waterloo) and won a split decision. Both gentleman fought hard and had no gas left in the tank by the end. Exciting match by both fighters....one point to make here with this fight, after the bell of round three both guys said at the same time, "let's go get a beer"....and they did, together. One of the things I love about our great sport is that you can be all about business in the ring, and then hug and be friends and show some respect after it is over. Riley introduced Dave to his wife and friends...I thought that was cool, especially this being the debut bout for both guys. Ok, for the rest of Team Roundkick...Naomi Ferguson (13) made her debut (IR) with Kayla Carpenter (age 12, Team Singto). As Dean said, these two girls battled hard. This fight was supposed to be a scored bout, and due to some miscommunication was not scored and treated as an exhibition once it was done. I was a little upset with that, because Naomi did extremely well. I was very pleased with her performance. BUT, it is the experience that counts and for that I am happy. Next for us, Ann Graff (17) fought an IR exhibition with seasoned NAC champ Lauren Herrig (14, Team Singto). This was Ann's first time in the ring aside from a couple sparring sessions. I am proud of Ann's performance for the fact that she fought with alot of heart. Lauren is a true champion and could probably beat most guys her age and older. She is a very talented fighter. Lauren was probably the toughest fighter Ann will face for a long time to come. Ann was also back in the gym today with a great attitude (and some briuses ;) , which I told her build character, of course..lol. Last for us was an exhibition between Haley Rothmeyer (8) and Rebecca Mione (10) both of Team Roundkick. This was Becca's first time in the ring also, and both girls fought very hard. They have a great deal of potential for the future.

Team Roundkick is not even a year old, but growing fast and growing strong. I hope we can make a good showing at next year's Regionals and NAC. Next up..MIck Doyle's show in Omaha, Dec 11.

BTW, Good to see you again too Mick. Thanks for the sample liniment. I use it on Ann's leg and It did not bruise up like normal, I think you have a great product there. Looking forward to getting some for the team in the near future.

Hey, Jason(fight geek)...it was great to meet you. Sorry I didn't get time to talk to you more. As with dean, it was a pretty busy night for me too.

Once again, thanks Russ...you put on a great show! Team Singto...you all looked great as usual. Good to see you all again. Thanks for the help!

Sorry I wrote a book everyone, I had a few things to say..lol. I too am sorry I could not give more bout results of other fighters. I was too busy to watch the others. But what I did see of some, was some great action!

Later!

This was a Great show!
First it was Great to finally meet Dean, Pete, Pam, and Randy (from Pete's team..did I get the name right?) You all were great and it was a pleasure meeting. I am sure in the future we will have more time to talk.

I was totally impressed with your teams! You all have a great presence, good energy, great talent, positive vibe etc. etc.

OK,
On to the show. It was great to see such a diverse crowd in terms of age. A lot of young fans which is a good thing. Also many young fighters out there looking great. I wish I would have started out at that age!

There were so many great fights, I don't really know people's names, so I will just say I thought no matter what rule style there were great fights in all of them.

It was great seeing an MMA fight. When it started and there was the slam, everyone was on their feet, it was a great variety for a fight fan and fight geek.

T-shirt of the night I thought was I believe from Doyle's team (Omaha?) it said on the back.
"I bust mine to kick yours"

Also compliments to Russ O'Connel. The show had a lot of fights, and it ran extremely well. I was worried at first there was only two sets of gloves but it did not hinder things at all that I could see. I enjoyed the show and speaking of T-shirts. Having the security with the fight card on the back of their shirts was a great idea.

I have a question, It was interesting to see in the Thai fights the fighters going through the ritual of having a hand/glove on the rope going to each corner saying or doing something and then hitting it and continuing on. Just curious about it. Thanks!

Last question.....Dean, how long have you been growing your hair?! :)
Isn't that hot when you work out?
Just jealous because Pete and I are in the same boat! Bald is beautiful :D

Jason,
The ritual you are speaking of is when the fighter seals the ring before they fight. Basically what they are doing is sealing off the ring from any outside interference so that it is just them and their opponent free to do battle. It is a traditional ritual in Muay Thai. The other tradition that is usually not allowed is the Wai Kru and Ram Muay. This is the ceremonial paying of respect and "dance" done before a bout. I wish more promoters would allow it, but they complain it is too time consuming. The sealing of the ring and the Wai Kru and Ram Muay differ from camp to camp and is steeped in Thai tradition and culture. My background in Muay Thai comes from Ajarn (Master) Surachai Sirisute. He is the president and founder of the Thai Boxing Association of the USA and my team does the sealing of the ring and Wai Kru and Ram Muay as passed down from him.
As far as the dreads go I have had them for the last 8 years. Last year I cut about 11 inches off of them. Yes, they can get in the way, but I am used to them and have managed to cope.
It was great to meet you. I wish we had more time to chat. I am sure we willmeet again. Take good care.

Dean,
Thanks for the information! It is interesting to learn about the culture and history of where things come from.
Do you have to start at any certain corner?

Did your fighter who fought FC train at all like that before? Impressive that she switched and did a FC if that isn't what she is accustomed to.

I am sure we will meet again!
take care
Jason

To Jason:It was fun putting a face with the name!! As the others have said, it would have been nice to be able to stop and really talk, but duty called!
Make a note of the upcoming fights around the midwest and we will be there! If they are closer to home, we will have more time to socialize after the fights. I think we may consider a hotel the next time we visit Waterloo. It isn't that long of a drive, but yet it is after a full night of excitement and no one to talk to on the way home because they're all snoring! :p At least Pete had Dave and Randy in his car to yap with and swap stories on the way home!

To Dean (and Kevin & Tom!): It was, as always, great seeing your team. They are always very impressive and fun to watch. What always amazes me is how "Sweet and Innocent" your girls look until they throw that first punch, Dean, it was nice meeting your wife and daughters, too.

To Russ: Great show! Things continued on smoothly throughout the night. I love the location! The T-shirts, with the fight card printed on the back, was a super idea!

Jason,

The trip home went ok. I was in the car with Pete and Dave and we traded stories all the way home. :D I guess Pam and the girls almost hit a deer though.

11-22-2004, 08:36 AM
Almost?!?!?! I did! I got his butt! I can't believe you guys didn't see me swerve clear over in the other lane and see him in your headlights. IF you had been paying attention to the road instead of laughing, you would have seen him. You guys weren't THAT far behind me!

Randy B
11-22-2004, 09:06 AM
Pam

I guess after following you all the way over there we were just used to you swerving clear over in the other lane... :D

Pete P
11-22-2004, 09:17 AM
LMAO!! :D And she thinks I drive bad...You hit the nail on the head Randy, maybe she should be behind herself sometime to see what we saw, huh? Just kiddin' Pam..you drive great honey! :o

Pammypanda1
11-22-2004, 09:20 AM
ooooooooooooooooooooooooh slam!

You were never close enough behind me on the way over to see me do anything! Pete was always too busy yappin' to realize what car he was following! :D

Pammypanda1
11-22-2004, 09:22 AM
Yep, you better say I drive good, or you will be doing all of the driving to IL and back this weekend! ;) Hey, at least I stay in my own lane!

and how are you on the message board when you are suppose to be out doing errands? ;)

Pete P
11-22-2004, 09:23 AM
Yep! I was yappin' alright, but if you had not had your eyeballs glued to the rear view mirror to see where we were or if you could see us yappin', then you might have seen the deer sooner, huh?? Well, huh? ;)

Pete P

I can't leave til the noon kardio class gets here, then I am leaving on the errands, but I already told you that before I left home to come here. Ha!

11-22-2004, 09:35 AM
Hey, i'm sick, that means I can plead temporary incoherence.

I send you an email about noon kardio, check your email.

and my eyeballs weren't glued to the rear view mirror, I glanced in it to make sure you weren't too close to me when I decided to swerve instead of hitting the poor thing head on. duh. :p now get to work. :D

I have a question,
What was the issue between the doctor and one of the woman sitting at ringside and checking people in.
They got into a little tiff. Just curious if anyone knows what the problem was?

Thanks!

just bumping this topic so I don't have to see dude from Mississippi's name above a legit topic, please for the love of what we do, let's let him fade away without using his name or threads with his name anymore

Hey Geek, I didn't see the "tiff" between those two, but did you see the fighter who hurt his ankle before his fight? Emil, I think...he got pissed and punche the glass out covering the fire extinguisher. Naomi, my 13 yr old fighter got a piece of glass in her foot before her fight from his tantrum. I saw the cop over talking with him, anyone know if any charges were filed against him or did they just slap his hand and say don't do it again??

Jason (fight geek)
11-22-2004, 09:59 AM
Pete,

I heard the crash.
POOR. Come on it is bad enough you hurt yourself warming up, now you act like a fool, makes it look even worse.
I saw the cop talking as well. I saw someone handing cash or check or something, so not sure what happened.
If he paid then that is good, but if he fought can you imagine if he get's that worked up, he would lose it and get his A$$ handed to him. Just what I think.
Calm is good.

Jason,
You start in your corner then go counter clockwise until you return to your corner.

No, Jerica was preparing for an IR rules bout. We did not know we had to change to FCR until Friday night. We decided to fight anyway. It is hard to change tactics, but she is a good athlete. I prefer MTR and IR that is what I teach at my gym. We rarley go FCR.

Dean,

I am impressed that she took it and did so well. Good for her.
I don't think she even threw one errant low kick did she?
That is really impressive.

I find it difficult to understand how everyone doesn't know what rules they are fighting until the day before or even once they have shown up, as was our case in DM. If one camp is told they are fighting IR, and the other is told FC, is it the promoter that dropped the ball? Is it that difficult to understand what rules you are lining the fights up for? I have not promoted fights before, but we will be soon, so maybe once we do, I will understand how that misunderstanding happens. Is it the promoter not communicating with the trainer? Is it the trainer not communicating with the fighter? Does the trainer accept a fight, thinking they will get their fighter to switch and then forget to tell the fighter he/she needs to train a different rules style? Or is it the promoter not telling both fighters that a rules style has not been set?

Wouldn't that throw one person into a big disadvantage, if they have not had time to properly train in the rules style they have to fight in? And which switch would be more fair? To have the FC switch to IR or to have the IR switch to FC?

I'm sure I will catch flack for even approaching this topic!

Pete P

Hey Pam, I am back from errands and yes you will catch flack...from me, mainly. I can answer all these Q's for you, just ask...I won't bite your head off or anything. I have promoted fights several years ago, as you know, and it can be a big headache for the promoter. Most people do not realize how much work goes into putting on a quality show, especially the headaches of match making. I will fill you in later. And, no, we will not have that problem when we do our show in March :)

Pammypanda1

oh I know I will get a talking to from you. ;)
I was just curious as to what others thought. :p
