Great job as usual, Ray and Stephen. Having sparred with Stephen, let me go ahead and tell anyone who doesn't believe it, he is the real deal. Although it looks like he is not that hard to hit, that somebody will catch him- if he doesn't want them to, no one can touch him. And I saw some of his punches as they came AWAY from my face. Never saw them coming in. Incredible talent, physical ability, and what a great kid as well. Ray, I look forward to getting with you when you get back in the country. Enjoy your time in Canada!

Dear Mr Reiley
I realize that Walter Baric had a poor record but just to get the record straight out there in the Kickboxing world ....
I got an offer for Wonderboy's service by promoter Joe Odman and when he told me that Baric kept calling him saying he will put an end to that American superstar, Joe had no choice but to book the fight. It seems Baric was talking to the media about a certain promoter( me) avoiding Canadian talent to sign a young American and he was going to show how wrong I was by ending Wonderboy Thompson's winning ways. This Baric guy even phone me at the house to ask me to manage him after he beats Stephen so he did not lack confidence. What he did lack was the talent and the experience to be in the same ring as Stephen and paid a heavy price with a 1 minute and 8 sec K.O loss .As Canadian manager of the Wonderboy, I new this was one of those opponnent trying to make a quick name for themself by creating an upset and I am happy to see that Baric is not injured seriously.I have to give him a lot of credit for showing up and trying his best to win. He came out firing and he was not scared. I really think Walter Baric will learn from this mistake and be a good middleweight down the road.
As for Stephen, he amazed everyone by keeping his composure and exploding at the right time to finish this fight early. To see Ray Thompson tune that machine in the dressing room is amazing and this dynamic duo will be heard of for years to come.
Look for the Wonderboy to be back fighting in Montreal real soon but with less chance of a local fighter trying him on this time.

I was there at the fights. The guy actually asked the promoter to fight the wonderboy. Right after the bell rang Stephen kicked the guy a left leg round kick. The guy blocked it but he had this look on his face that said "holy **** that was hard!" Everytime the guy got hit he got rocked until Stephen did his patented run and blitz move and cracked the guy with a right hand. I found an awesome picture of it from a Canadian website.

First of all, congratulations to the Wonderboy for his tremendous victory. Looking at the outcome of the fight, many will conclude that it was a mismatch and it probably was. But that was not the opinion of Walter Baric himself : he had openly challenged Stephen already in January on the Canadian site www.ultimefanatic.com and he kept asking for a fight against him (see Vic Theriault’s e-mail). The day before the bout, he gave an interview on the same site. It’s in French but I translated the best passages :
" It will be a good fight and I got all the tools to win it. "
" I have a very complex psychological approach in terms of strategy. The outcome of the fight will be determined by intelligence. Thompson has several shortcomings in his fighting and I am going to make use of them on July 2. "
" I like the fact that all the advertising is focused on him : when he loses his fight, I will take advantage of it, so I’m really glad. "
" It will be an explosive fight but I have a lot of theoretical plans to neutralize his fighting. "
" I have decided to put an end to his reign. "
And, last but not least :
Question : " Do you have a message for the Wonderboy ? "
Walter Baric : " Yes, if he wants, I’m going to give him some seminars in order to improve his fighting. "
I don’t know whether Stephen asked Baric after the fight how much he would charge him for his seminars but I was told that, when he woke up, Baric said : “I knew he was good but I didn’t know he was that good.”
Welcome to the Wonderboy’s fan club, Mr Baric !
Now, to his credit, it should be said that at least Baric had the guts to fight (or to try). Others didn’t (no names, I've decided to be kind this week).

Vic Therault,
I wasn't saying that Baric was weak at all!! LOL! Somebody had stated earlier that they didn't have any info on Stevens opponent so I just looked him up via google. Sorry for the confusion. :)

I cant wait to see Nevitt and Wonderboy go at it. What will it take to get these two in the ring together. Is it to soon for Wonder?

There is an article about the Montreal event and the Wonderboy's victory as well as a series of pictures on the site of the USKBA http://www.uskba.com/frameset.htm

Do not worry Dayne. I'm sure the showdown between the "Wonderboy" and Nevitt will happen. We have a few people to get through before we are worthy of the title shot with "Tension". Rest assured it will be one of the GREATS!!!!
