The CKO is an objective rankings system for heavyweight kickboxers. The history of the #1 which outlines the lineage from Branko Cikatic to the current holder, Akio Mori, can be found here (http://www.centralkickboxing.org/majesty.htm). There have been a few upsets such as when Patrick Smith took the #1 rank from Andy Hug or when Bob Sapp took it from Ernesto Hoost.

Now, Francois Botha is set to challenge Mori in the K-1 Eliminations. Botha probably could claim the “Anything Can Happen” award. He has lost fights he was winning and won fights he was losing. He has the power to seize the day and the #1 rank.

Should Mori win, it will be a kickboxer’s victory. Should Botha win, it will be a washed up boxer taking the #1 rank in heavyweight kickboxing. Given Botha’s inconsistency, even if he did take the #1 rank, there would be little reason to expect him to hold it for long. That said, can the kickboxing community endure a boxer holding the #1 rank? Can they endure the boxing community saying “I told you so!”?

We may have to.

Below is a list of the fights on the event:

Mori [1] vs. Botha [4]
Kaennorsing [3] vs. Sefo [5]
LeBanner [11] vs. Goodridge [47]
Sapp [17] vs. Choi [242]

I also agree that it's interesting having the possibility of a 'washed up' boxer holding the title. In my opinion, Botha never was THAT great during his boxing days. However, he does have some respectable power and that gives him a punchers chance. I'd like to see what'd he'd do against some stiff side kicks and fluid movement.
