IKF Nationals: Pipe Line to the K-1 USA

Re: IKF Nationals: Pipe Line to the K-1 USA
Great article. It's nice to see people like CKO (Felix, I believe), who don't even live on this continent, notice the prestige of the event.

The IKF Nationals is the breeding ground for future World Champs in all Kickboxing disciplines! Good stuff..

Re: IKF Nationals: Pipe Line to the K-1 USA
I was a Champion in 1999 at the first NAC, and runner up in 2001, and I fought on the K-1 Battle at the Bellagio as a featured fight, against Brian Schwartz, at middleweight. Also fighting that night was Carter Williams, in a Superfight, who is a past IKF NAC Champ. I think they are getting the idea where some of this talent is coming from, at that time Javier Mendes was matchmaking, and he is a friend of the IKF, as I understand it.

I was surprised to find that Selbee wasn't a NAC champion or finalist. I expected to give him honorable mention too but couldn't. I hope more FCR amateurs hone their skills and consider turning pro. If kyokushin fighters can make the transfer, so can you. |

I noticed the mention of the CKO article on the IKF news page. Thanks for the kind words and keep up the good work.

Re: IKF Nationals: Pipe Line to the K-1 USA
CKO, I have read all of the articles on your website and have enjoyed them all. I appreciate the respect you show to the IKF Tournament. If more amateur fighters realize the prestige of winning this tournament, it can help the sport grow by giving fighters a goal to work towards achieving. More fighters will only make the tournament more prestigious and help it to grow. You made the following statement: “I hope more FCR amateurs hone their skills and consider turning pro. If kyokushin fighters can make the transfer, so can you.” I am glad that you feel this way. I have been working very hard on leg kicks and knees! I am planning making an impact on the K-1 scene. I have been in contact with K-1 and sent them my information and a highlight tape of my fights. Hopefully K-1 is taking me as serious as I am taking my training. My wife is starting to forget what I look like. I’m sure a lot of people will think that I am crazy. But hell, they are just being observant. I am a glutton for punishment. At my age, there is no more time to be wasted. It will be a big change for me. I plan on bringing a new style of fighting to the K-1. Win, Lose, or Draw, if it happens, somebody is going to get “Steamrolled”!
Sincerely, Michael “The Steamroller” Dean 2003 IKF North American FCR Super Heavyweight Tournament Champion 2004 IKF North American Classic FCR Super Heavyweight Champion 2005 IKF North American Classic FCR Super Heavyweight Champion Steamroller: A crushing force especially when ruthlessly applied to overcome opposition. A massive relentless force that seems to crush everything in its way. |
Re: IKF Nationals: Pipe Line to the K-1 USA
Hello Michael,
Thanks for the kind words. I have always believed that good FCR amateurs could do well in pro KB. I have seen a lot of transfer athletes do well enough to convince me. I'll keep my eyes open for you. Best regards, CKO |
