Mr. KickboxingMI,

I am sorry you feel so negatively towards me. I wish I knew who you were so I could just talk to you directly about all of this, but since you didn't leave your real name or any way of contacting you I will attempt to resolve the issues that have bothered you enough to make you so angry as to actually create an account and voice your opinion of me to everyone.

I am the owner of a large gym of which I just opened a few years ago, this is true. It is also true that I could make a lot of money throwing a great show like this. I also have a great group of local fighters that would draw good crowds. You were correct about all the things that were true about what you thought of my situation. However, there are other things in my situation that are also true.

I am currently teaching morning classes, then study for a couple of hours and then go directly to school to earn my marketing degree. After I get out of school I come straight back to the gym to teach until sometimes 10:30 at night. In between all of this I try to balance family time with my wife and 2 kids. On the weekends I am usaully busy traveling with fighters to different fights or tournaments if I am not teaching. This weekend will be no different. I will be in NYC cornering one of my fighters.

You see Mr. kicboxingMI the priorities in my life at present are my family, my business, my fighters, my education. I am planning to promote one day, but I don't get out of school until after this show is supposed to take place. Promoting is not one of my priorities at present it would be foolish of me to attempt to take on such a huge event as my first attempt at promoting a martial arts show. I have promoted in this town before, but it was for promoting live music, so I do have connections in the local media which would help any promoter. I also have lived here my whole life, which means I have a pretty good understanding of the market here. Trying to organize this type of event with 0 experience, however, would not only be foolish, it would be completely irresponsible. I would assume you are a promoter since you know how long it takes to promote shows, and since you know how much money you can make on an event like this. I also assume that you understand that it takes a great deal of starting capital to throw an event like this, of which, I don't presently have the luxury. I think the responsible thing for me to do would be leave this to someone who has a bit more experience than myself, would you not agree? Even though I might be able to make a quick 10 grand or whatever, Zack day is a really good friend of mine and I would not want to botch his shot at a world title because of greed. I would also not want any cowards hiding behind a fake name slinging mud at me or saying that I rigged his fight because Zack is one of my fighters.

So until I get out of school promoting is not even going to be a consideration. Well, you must excuse me I have to go to class now. I hope all of this was helpful and quenched your anger towards me. I will leave with one piece of advice for you Mr. Kickboxing MI. "Grow a set coward, and use your real name next time". I apologize if these remarks are harsh but, as far as I can tell my statements are true!

Mr.KickboxingMI: ( With a name like this, kinda makes me wonder if your ego is well............OUT THERE )

I guess what I'm getting at here is, it is time for large gyms like yours to put up or shut up with regards to promoting and growing your fighters and the sport! You have a draw (your fighters), a local connection, (your gym) a local audience (your members), etc... You should promote the shows yourself. i apologize if these remarks are harsh but, as far as I can tell my statements are true!

I wish you would tell everybody your name......anyways Mark is great person, trainer and overall nice guy. He is committed to his family, education and his students. Much more wonderful things can be said about this man and he has some great talent in his school. BUT this post is really not about Mark, but you did make some assumptions about a friend of mine and your comments are totally uncalled for, period. This post is ABOUT DAY VS GILL, if you are so concerned about this fight, then help out and talk it up. Please do not put down what others are trying to achieve to PROMOTE A GREAT FIGHT. Perhaps you should read the post about Ritchie Plant possibly promoting this fight. Never met the man, but hats off to him!!! Maybe you did not read Colin Payne's response that Gill may listen to any serious offers. THIS IS GREAT STUFF for kickboxing.

In you are going to make comments like the one below, be a Man and sign your real name. By the way, my name is at the bottom.

I gotta say, I never really had a problem with the fake names. I don’t really plan on punching someone in the face for their opinion, so the name doesn’t matter. What matters is that AdminMI or whoever has an opinion, and the issue should be addressed, because they may have a legitimate reason for staying anonymous, and they are probably not the only person having that opinion.

In this case, when I first read Mark’s post about this opportunity, I thought, “Why isn’t Mark promoting it?” I kinda decided it might be a lot more stressful & conflicted for someone who isn’t a full-time promoter to set up a fight AND prepare a fighter for the main event on the show, so I never asked him about it. That said, the post in question went from being inquisitive, to offering some solid dollars & sense diagnosis, to being a plain old jacka$$. “Put up or shut up” is not in any way productive.

Whether Mark’s reasons to not promote are legitimate in your eyes or not, the sport is better by the suggestion. If everyone who had a great idea about kickboxing kept their mouths shut until they felt they had the personal ability to make their ideas happen from start to finish, this board and this sport would be even deader than it is right now, if you can imagine that. That’s right. Deader. I said it.

Anyway, it’s great if Ritchie Plant decides to step up and make this fight happen. I think it would be a great fight. If not, I may have access to a few dollars. If Steve, Andy from the GSAC, & the interested parties would be willing to hold me by the hand & help me figure out how to set this up, I would be willing to take a stab at putting this fight on. April or May.

Mark, awesome response. Two thumbs up!

I agree in that I couldn't care less about a fake name. I, however, have been accused of punching someone based on their moronic opinion. Who knew?

At the obvious risk of wasting my time, I'm compelled to breifly address the statements made by Mr. KickboxingMI. It was evident to me that Mark Greubel was simply attempting to get a fight card going here in Augusta. I support anyone who works to get the sport most of us love going, especially here locally. Furthermore, Mark Greubel has done more for kickboxing, around the world, than pretty much anyone in this area. Instead of thinking of positives and ways to get the ball rolling you seek to diminish and belittle. Before you begin your rebuttal, why don't tell me what you've done for the sport...who ever you are?

Mike:

As always you are ready to go and rumble..good for you!! I cannot speak for Mark but this post is about Day vs Gill, not about anything else. I think you just like to rumble in ring which is great for us fans and the sport. Keep pushing the posts.

I think Day vs Morello would be the most exciting fight I could possibly imagine at that weight. Especially in IR or K1! It would be NON-STOP. Both guys are bangers with great chins and great cardio. Both guys move foward the entire time. Both guys are complete animals in the ring and gentlemen outside. What a great fight if it ever happened! By the way guys... Thanks for backing me up on my original intent of this tread. All I wanted to do help get some excitement going about kickboxing and to hook up 2 great fighters.

How bout a double header Day vs Gill and MadDog vs Brad Fowler on the same card, and hopefully we both (Zack & I) come out victorious and then Zack and I could fight for the IR or K1 Championship
what cha think Just throwing some crazy idea's out there for mid/late 2010.

Just an idea on making the event a little more interesting with a possible future event due to the outcome of a doubleheader and it would also give Mr.Fowler a chance to defend since he's probly not to happy about winning the Championship on the scale.
