From IKF Kickboxing
Posted by Admin - Message Board Staff ____________________________ Hi Everyone, So many have been e-mailing and calling asking "Have we selected the date and location for the 2005 IKF North American Classic Tournament yet?" the selection process for this event is no easy task. As of today (November 1st, 2004) we have 124 requests from locations across USA and even Canada. We expect to have as many as 50 more by submission deadline of November 15th and some will be submitting until December 1st. The IKF thought it would be a good idea to let you know some of the cities they are looking at for the 2005 Classic. There has been no cut-down of locations as of yet. This will take place between November 15th and December 5th. All locations are being looked at closely. the first cut will be to 10 locations. We will list those final 10 for all to see. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated to the IKF. We will not list all the actual hotel names because some cities have as many as 6-8 of them, but here are "SOME" of the cities below for you to give feedback on. We will list the STATES in Alphabetical Order: USA Phoenix, Arizona Tempe, Arizona ____________________________ Fort Smith Arkansas ____________________________ Indio, California Long Beach, California Palm Springs, California Sacramento, California San Diego, California San Francisco, California ____________________________ Kissimmee, Florida Orlando, Florida Tampa Bay, Florida Fort Lauderdale, Florida Miami, Florida West Palm Beach, Florida ____________________________ Atlanta, Georgia Augusta, Georgia Duluth, Georgia ____________________________ Pocatello, Idaho ____________________________ Chicago, Illinois Peoria, Illinois Rockford, Illinois Schaumburg, Illinois ____________________________ Fort Wayne, Indiana ____________________________ Cedar Rapids, Iowa ____________________________ Kansas City, Kansas ____________________________ Louisville, Kentucky ____________________________ New Orleans, Louisiania ____________________________ Springfield, Mass. ____________________________ Battle Creek, Michigan Detroit, Michigan ____________________________ Minneapolis, Minnesota Bloomington, Minnesota ____________________________ Biloxi, Mississippi ____________________________ St. Charles, Missouri ____________________________ Omaha, Nebraska ____________________________ Atlantic City, New Jersey ____________________________ Las Vegas, Nevada Mesquite, Nevada Reno, Nevada ____________________________ New York, New York ____________________________ Cleveland, Ohio Toledo, Ohio ____________________________ Tulsa Oklahoma ____________________________ Phidelphia, Pennsylvania ____________________________ Mertle Beach, South Carolina ____________________________ Memphis, Tennessee Nashville, Tennessee ____________________________ Corpus Christi, Texas Dalas Texas Houston, Texas Beaumont, Texas Round Rock, Texas ____________________________ Salt lake City, Utah ____________________________ Virginia Beach, Virginia ____________________________ Madison, Wisconsin Milwaikee, Wisconsin ____________________________ ____________________________ ____________________________ CANADA Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Niarga Falls, Ontario, Canada Toronto, Ontario, Canada Winnipeg, Ontario, Canada ____________________________ ____________________________ ____________________________ As you can see, the selection process will be taking us awhile. A lot of great cities in that list. I'm sure it will take a lot of thought and debate to pick the final one.
If Canada is picked to host the event, Toronto is a wonderful place. I visit there often, and have taken the kids a few times as well. It is a beautiful city and is also affordable. |

1. Kissimmee, Fla.- GREAT vacation location 2. Orlando, Fla. - " " " 3. Atlanta, Ga.- Cheap to fly into and you can find everything here. 4. New Orleans, La.- Well it's the big easy. Lots of Cajun food. 5. Minneapolis, Minnesota,- Beautiful country 6. Las Vegas, Nevada- Do I need to explain this one. 7. New York, New York- Same as Atl. 8. Myrtle Beach, SC.- Same as Orlando & Kissimmee. 9. Memphis, Tennessee- Home of "The King Of Rock-N-Roll". 10.Toronto, Ontario, Canada- Land of the "Iceman", Jean Yves Theriault. This list is subject to change. |

My pics:
1.) Myrtle Beach ( Mid-Eastern part of the U.S.) has many of the fighters whci supported last years event within an 8 Hour Trip for driving. If you add up the fighters in that time zone you will have over half of your NAC fighters. If this would be the place the number would go up atleast 1 third. My view anyhow, and only mine. 2.) Las Vegas ( No need to explain like Steve). 3.) Any where in Florida. |

My top 5 Picks:
Chicago, IL Las Vegas, NV Atlanta, GA Philadelphia, PA San Diego, CA New York, NY would be on my list, because it's so fun and there's a lot to do, but in my previous experience with business meetings in NY, it's difficult to get a nice hotel at a good rate, and everything you buy in NY (read FOOD) is super expensive. Ultimately, although I'd love not to have the expense of flying to the 2005 tournament, I think Chicago or Las Vegas are the best picks. |

I like all the picks except i would say NO to New York and California for regulatory reasons.
None of us have tons of money, and especially in CA it would be a lot due to license fees. Now for some math. The numbers are based on the fighters/officials turnout from the 2004 NAC. For the sake of argument, we will assume each fighter has two cornerpersons (this is to allow for someone who corners more than 1 fighter, and will also assume the medical exams cost $150. Fighters License-- $0 + Medicals x 230 = 34500 Cornerpersons-- $50 x 460 = 2300 Referee* -- $75 + Medicals x 6 = 1350 Judge* -- $75 x 21 = 1575 Timekeeper -- $50 x 5 = 250 *= California regulations specifically allow a licensed referee to judge without a separate judges license. Thus I only counted the referees once. This would not apply to any other combination (Example: I am qualified/certified by IKF as a timekeeper, judge, and kick counter (probably need judges license for that). I would need both licenses). So right there thats an additional $39,725 going out of the collective pockets of fighters trainers and officials. Then throw in insurance at about $49000 So thats about $89,000 extra out of the collective pocket of the kickboxing community. And that doesnt count venue rent or anything else, just state requirements! Also, with regard to Canada, WATCH IT! they have really oddball rules in certain provinces, and some provinces allow CITIES to regulate combat sports (not good IMO) Last edited by Austin "OT" Baitman : 11-10-2004 at 03:20 PM.
