Kickboxing Event Set For A
Night of "Fury"
In Rocklin, California - November 14th, 2003

IKF Rocklin, California, USA: "The first Live IKF Full Contact Kickboxing event is set and ready to bring "fury" to the City of Rocklin" says Johnny Davis (Left) of A.K. Promotions, a company dedicated to promoting and teaching the sport of Kickboxing.

Friday, November 14th, at 8:PM, (doors open at 7:PM) the Rocklin Sunset Center will be transformed into a "Las Vegas Style" arena for a night of exciting Kickboxing action as some of the best fighters in California clash at center stage! Its this stage that will separate the contenders from the champions and the weak from the strong. With only one man between them and hundreds of screaming fans those at center stage will be the sole deciding factor of the other's fate. It will be a night of historical proportion and one of

Feet and Fist of Fury(FFF) !

The Fight Card: Two time IKF National Champ, 2002 IKF North American and IKF California lightweight champion Robert 'Slim Shady" Elledge (Right) of Roseville will take on the tough and aggressive, Navy Seal candidate Mike Bolig of Napa, California. Bolig and Elledge are no strangers in the ring as they faced off several months ago in Fairfield, California in a "Boxing Brawl." Bolig was not satisfied with the close decision by Elledge and is eager to show the young champion he has what it takes to walk the walk in the main event of the evening!

Mike "Machine Gun" Marinoble (Left) of Roseville, California is the IKF California Heavyweight Kickboxing Champ (above the waist kicks) and fights out of IKF World Kickboxing champion Dave "Mad Man" Marinoble's gym in Roseville, California. Mike will take on a determined Hector Gutteriez of Santa Rosa, California. Word has it that the 209 lbs Gutteriez plans to bring it hard because of Marinoble's novice experience and first attempt at the International Rule style which includes kicks to the legs.

In another semi-main event, Dion Pimento of Roseville, California will test his skills against one of the best middleweights the State of California has to offer, Floyd Savoy of San Francisco, California. Floyd is coming off a recent victory over Derek Burnsed of Roseville who had to drop out of this event due to some old injuries that needed more time to heal. Some are predicting the Savoy/Pimento bout to be one of the best of the evening!

A fight that may be one of the night's big surprises and will test both men - 150 lbs. Johndell David of Concord, California has an impressive record of 8-1 and will have his feet and hands full with a man who has knocked out every opponent in all of his eight fights except the two who defeated him. Dareo Guzman of Las Vegas, Nevada will go for another knockout in this International Rules (leg kicks) Kickboxing match!

In the only woman's bout of the evening, Molly Pelton of Newcastle, California will do battle with Casey Nolan of San Luis Obispo, California. Additionally, the "FFF" card will have more exciting bouts such as:

  1. Light Heavyweight Randy Hickman of Rancho Cordova, California vs Luke Riddering of San Luis Obispo, California.

  2. Jeff Kastorff vs Marcus McCurly of Turlock, California.

  3. Juan Carlos Vega of Dixon, California vs Ozzy Rodriquez of Modesto, California.

  4. Tawn Saephon of Roseville, California, vs Noel Rodriquez of Modesto, California.

  5. Robert Bates of Roseville, California vs Rick Cheek of Santa Rosa, California.

  6. Victor Rodriguez of Modesto, California Vs TBA.

  7. and Mike Komich of Rancho Cordova, California Vs TBA.

Marketing
Moreover, Davis teamed up with Rocklin based cable company Starstream Communications to assist with marketing the event. Starstream Communications covers approx. five cities in Placer County, California. Thirty second commercials have been running consistently on major networks like TNT, ESPN 2, MTV and USA. When Davis was asked for comments about the cable company, he kept it simple and to the point "Starstream is a first class company…hands down !"

Newspapers ads., articles , posters and thousands of handbills have been passed out for this event in hopes of it being a huge success. Davis adds, "It's hard for me to promote in small venues as the Sunset Center with a limited capacity. I've been involved promoting an assortment of larger events for many years . Therefore, I'm constantly reminding myself to tone it down. With five shows planned for next year, perhaps bigger venues will make themselves available after the success of this show. Additionally, I'm really just thankful to be a part of this wonderful community and appreciate everyone's support."

Starstream Communications will show a delayed broadcast of the FFF event in the format of the IKF Kickboxing TV Program already shown in nine Southeastern States on the Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) Network. Local talk show host Jeff Evans will be joined by world class trainer Gene Fields (Right) to do commentary on the fights. Mr. Fields is best known as trainer of 2003 North American K-1 champion Carter "The Beast" Williams who recently competed in a Pay Per View event in Japan.

Feet and Fist of Fury
INDEED!

Marinoble Wins…Pelton Waits!

Rocklin, California, USA: This past Saturday night, November 14th , the town of Rocklin, CA witnessed for the first time the exciting sport of Kickboxing. Based on the article in this weeks local newspaper that takes up more than a half a page and reads "Kickboxing event a big-time success ; Marinoble wins main event, is proof yet again that the sport is ready to go to the next level!

Local fight fans were surprised at the hundreds of spectators who came out to witness the event. Chris Anderson chairperson for the Rocklin Recreation Committee was at first reluctant about the event coming to Rocklin, CA, a small and some what conservative town but afterwards stated "This event has shown me the popularity of this sport and that measures are taken to the show that safety is involved."

Most in attendance enjoyed a continuous stream of non stop action of great fights, fog and flickering lights' entrances, great music and exciting martial arts demonstrations. However, some would be disappointed, not in the action but in a mix up that caused a cancellation of their fight.

Newcastle's Molly Pelton of the Ringside Gym had to witness the agony of being trained and ready for her bout only to find out that it would not happen because of presumed miscommunication between the promoter's staff and the opponent's trainer. It was surely a case of "But you said this weight". Any way you cut it, both fighters lost out on this deal. But more so for the local Pelton who had several members of her family traveling to see her fight and was the only female fight on the card. Although the promoter of the event (Johnny Davis) was honorable enough to refund her family's tickets, one hopes that issues like this can stay to a minimum for future events.

Two time IKF USA National Amateur Champion and IKF 2002 North American Amateur Champion Robert Elledge was slated for the main event. Unfortunately his opponent Mike Bolig of Napa, CA failed to show up for the fight. Many here on the IKF site have seen post on the Kickboxing Message Board from Bolig stating that he would be fighting Elledge for the event. However in the end, he turned yellow and let many in the Kickboxing community down. Bolig's actions (Mainly since he never even called the promoter to explain why he wasn't going to show up, or a call after to explain why he didn't show up...) definitely secures the fact that he will not be competing in Kickboxing in the future!

The new main event featured IKF Amateur California Heavyweight champion Mike "Machine Gun" Marinoble of Roseville who won a split decision in what was to be his first International Rules (Leg Kicks) bout. Marinoble proved to be too savvy for the tough and aggressive Hector Gutierez of Santa Rosa, California.

Another action packed bout and deemed the most exciting fight of the evening was that of Dion Piamento of Roseville, California against the always tough Floyd Savoy of San Francisco, California in a Full Contact Rule style bout, (kicks above the waist). Although Savoy scored a solid knockdown in the middle of the bout, Piamento made several comeback attempts that brought the crowd to their feet! In the end, Savoy would pull this one off with a close decision.

All in all the Feet and Fist of Fury night of IKF Kickboxing was a success. It had all the makings of what it will take to move to the next level and rise to big time sports entertainment. Here are the remainder of the nights results:

  1. Jandell David of Concord, California won by an impressive TKO stoppage after the first round in an International Rule style bout over Dario Guzman of Las Vegas, Nevada.

  2. Randy Hickman of Roseville, California won by TKO over Luke Riddering of San Luis Obispo, California. International Rules.

  3. Roseville California's 258 lbs. Robert Bates won a decision over Sacramento California's Matt Dunn. International Rules.

  4. Juan Carlos Vega of Dixon, California won a unanimous decision over Ozzy Rodriguez of Modesto, California. Full Contact Rules.

  5. Tawn Saephon of Roseville, California scored a TKO over Noel Rodriquez of Modesto, California. Full Contact Rules.

  6. Marcus McCurly of Minnapolis, CA defeats Jeff Castorf by TKO.
