Martial Arts Has Lost A Great Man...
Grand Master Bob Chaney

February 2nd, 1943 / March 27th, 2016
Steve Fossum

All of us here at the IKF, as many of you found out earlier this week, that the Martial Arts world lost a great individual. All of us will be gone someday, and with that being said, it's sad that so few people know what many in the Martial Arts world have accomplished in their lives until moments like this, when we all read about them. It's unfortunate that so many never knew of Grand Master Bob Chaney's accomplishments when he was with us, but at least you will know of them now. Below is an article posted on muaythaimes.com which is actually a lot of what was on Mr. Chaney's Martial Arts school website. (masterchaney.com) We've added some additional photos at the end and welcome any others sent in to us that we will be glad to post up.

Bob Chaney was a leader among the Martial Arts. As a martial artists, he was also a fight trainer and so much more to many others. One thing I always admired about him was that he was soft spoken and "NEVER" felt the need or desire to talk about himself... (Something I hear almost too much of in my line of work.) I've always felt and said that if you have to tell someone who you are, what you accomplished or how great your doing, chances are, your not as great as you think you are. Bob left us in the morning of March 27th in Temecula, CA. Through his years he inspired so many to become more and had major influence on us all. His passion for the Martial Arts and fight sports was a love of his life, second only to his wife and family.

Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Sarinda and his family as well as his martial arts family.
Bob, your smile and soft spoken voice of wisdom and praise to many will be missed but never forgotten.

Rest In Peace Grand Master Chaney, You're one of Gods Champions now...

Mourning the Death of
Grand Master Bob Chaney

February 2nd, 1943 / March 27th, 2016

By Robert Reiter Of muaythaimes.com.

Grand Master Bob Chaney will almost certainly be remembered by those who knew him personally for his essential human warmth and dignity. At a basic gut level, some losses are irreplaceable. This is one of them.

Bob Chaney trained in the Martial Arts for over 43 years. He was promoted, with Chuck Norris and Bob Wall, to Eighth (8) Dan Grand Master Black Belt with the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) personally by Tae Kwon Do founder, General Choi in April 2002 at a ceremony in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, (just shortly before the General's death).

Bob Chaney started his original training in Issinryu in 1962 then switched to Tae Kwon Do in 1964 under Korean Grand Master Ill Joo Kim. Bob was the former player coach of the United States Karate team with the World Union of Karate Organization (WUKO) in 1975/76. A 1975 Gold Medalist, Bob Chaney also won 6 Grand Championships and garnered over 300 national and international trophies and awards in both Tae Kwon Do and Karate competitions over a span of 12 years. Bob Chaney and former World Champion Al Gene Caraulia were the first Americans to earn Class-A international referee licenses. Bob Chaney was the first chairmen of the appeals committee and first vice chairmen of the AAU National Certification program, the United States governing body for the World Union of Karate Organizations in the mid 1970's. Bob Chaney and Al Gene Caraulia were the pioneers that appointed most of the original referees and (WUKO) judges. Bob Chaney was currently licensed, at the time of his death, by the Nevada State Athletic commission as a professional Kickboxing and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) judge.

Boxing Background and Experience
Bob Chaney originally trained in boxing as an eight year old under his father, retired Pro Boxer Bob Chaney Senior. He began kickboxing in 1973. Then in 1989 he became the student and God Son of legendary boxing trainer Johnny Tocco of Johnny Tocco's Ringside Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob Chaney started training in Muay Thai with former Thai fighter Comb Sasatan in 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada before moving to Bangkok, Thailand in November of 1993 to train at "Osothapha camp" in Bangkok, Thailand. The Gym was owned by Chanai Pongsupha. It was renamed after Army General Sasipaprapa to Sasipaprapa Gym in the mid 1990's. He continued training under and working with formerly #1 rated Super Middle Weight boxing champion Chuck "Hurricane Kid" Siminnoni in 1997.

Promotional Back Ground
Bob Chaney began promoting Kickboxing with his first event at the Canton Memorial Auditorium in Canton, Ohio on December the 17th 1975. Bob Chaney has personally promoted or been intricately involved in promoting over 25 Full Contact, Kickboxing or Muay Thai events. Some of the major events were "Europe vs. Thailand", a live event via satellite feed from the Irgiff Palace in Rome, Italy back to Channel Three (3) in Bangkok, Thailand; "Las Vegas vs. Japan", taped from the Union Plaza in Las Vegas, Nevada; "Thailand vs. USA", a national pay-per-view event from the Thomas and Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada; live pay-per-view events from the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Santa Anna Star Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles, California and the Fairgrounds in Victorville, California. Most recently Bob Chaney partnered up with Dennis Warner, Mike Rush and Val Leedy with plans to promote quarterly Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts Events at the Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles, California.

Bob personally selected and was instrumental in hiring super models Sonia Couling and Louket Matinee (Former Miss Thailand) for color commentary at Omnoi Stadium on the outskirts of Bangkok. Bob can be seen commentating some of those fights from Omnoi Stadium with Sonia and Louket. Bob Chaney was a regular bi-monthly traveler to Thailand for over 9 years. He was a business associate with many of the promoters and stadium owners in and around Bangkok, as well as friends and associates with the owners and promoters at "Chaweng Stadium" in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Bob Chaney arranged the Omnoi Stadium title fight held at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in December 2002. This was the first time that a stadium title fight was held outside of Thailand and the first time ever that the Nevada State Athletic Commission sanctioned full rules Muay Thai. Bob Chaney brought over his friends Thong Tai the Lumpini Stadium champion to fight Tae Wa Rit Noi for the Omnoi Stadium title. Additionally, Bob Chaney arranged and brought over the Thai officials and referees to instruct and gain the confidence of the Nevada State Athletic Commissioners, which opened up the door for full rules Muay Thai rules that's now used in Nevada.

Bob Chaney used his Thailand connections to arrange and bring over 11 top Thai Fighters including, BM Sasiprapa, Malaipet, Lumpini Stadium champion, Thong Tai, Tae Wa Rit Noi, Nong Tom "The Lady Boy" Parinya, the legendary Samart, Gunnsak, Charoentong, Lumpini champion and Wusu gold medalist Pajonsuk, and Wonchana. Bob was affiliated with the Pitnoi, Sangmorakot, Chaweng Stadium and Asawayotin Camps in Thailand.

Bob Chaney had eight affiliated studies in the United States besides his self-owned studio in Upland, California, with an active enrollment of over 400 students. All of Bob's affiliated studios credit much of their high enrollments and huge successes largely to the inclusion of Muay Thai programs that account for approximately 50% of total enrollments.

Bob Chaney trained over 200 national and world champions in Karate and Tae Kwon Do, seven world Kickboxing champions and five World Muay Thai Champions.

Bob secured the rights and arranged for the airing of some of the greatest Muay Thai fights and fight footage for Muay Thai fans in America.

Bob was on the cover of several martial arts magazines and highlighted in over 25 feature articles in many Martial Arts publications such as "Black Belt", "Inside Kung Fu", "Fighting Stars" "Tommy Mc Kay's 'Big Book of Karate'", "Secrets of the Masters", "Tae Kwon Do Times", "Combat", and "Grappling Magazine".

RUMBLE IN THAILAND
American Kickboxers Train Muay Thai in Thailand

Dana Stamos
Bob Chaney is one of the best, if not THE BEST Muay Thai trainers in the world. Over the years I've written numerous articles on him for a variety of martial art publications, a few years ago I traveled to Thailand with Bob, and a handful of his students to document their experience while training Thailand. A Hollywood-casting agent couldn't have put together a better mix of personalities for this trip. Each fighter came from a different background, and before the trip was over they would run a myriad of emotions and physical challenges that would eventually define their character and put to task their will to overcome a number of adversities. There were two professional fighters in the mix; one was Thomas "Wild Man" Denny, who at the time was the reigning King of the Cage champion. He was akin to an unlit fuse on a stick of dynamite in search of a match. I covered the guys as they trained in a variety of gyms throughout Thailand. From a nasty beyond description sewer strewn grimy gym in Samui, to a state of the art Olympic training center outside of Bangkok to a rainforest in the mountains where we trained under a pounding waterfall - this excursion had it all. I had no idea that the trip would end up in a near full scale riot with Chaney and Denny in the middle of the action. The back story is about a handful of American amateur fighters that wanted to experience what it was like to train in a real Thai gym and to actually be on the fight card in one of Thailand's larger arenas the real story is how we all got out with all of our vital organs in tact. At that time the Americans were not trained in the use of elbows so a "friendly" agreement was reached between Bob and the owner of the stadium that elbows would not be used against the US fighters. However the Thais were unable to effectively answer the Americans strong boxing skills and unknown to us the stadium owner had bet heavily on his Thai fighters. So when it looked as if they could lose, he told his guys to start tossing elbows -- that's when the Muay Thai hit the fan.

Traditional Thai Herbal Formula for all Elite Athletes...
Athlon Rub
Launches in March 2016!

THE NEW OFFICIAL THAI LINIMENT OF THE IKF!

Athlon Rub, an All Sport Rub, brings the traditional time tested Thai Oil to all serious athletes in an all naturally derived formula made within an FDA and cGMP certified facility in South Florida. Athletes will have a trusted source and steady supply for Thai Oil to aid in their Warm-up, Training, & Recovery. Massage & Sport Therapist can also offer their clients treatment with a superior product proven to work. Just in time before the RIO Olympics in 2016, Athlon Rub is in the process of certifying that all production batches are Drug-Free of banned substances leaving no doubt in the minds of professional and amateur athletes concerned about their Performance Enhancement Drug (PED) Testing. Drug free certification is due mid- April 2016.

Thai Oil has historically been used in the extreme combat sport of Muay Thai (aka Thai Boxing), the national sport of Thailand and a martial art used around the world. Thai Oil is used during the warm-up process and before actual competitions, its use can be attributed to the longevity of the Thai boxer's long careers and their physical state later in age.

In Thailand over time, the use has expanded from hard working farmers to thoroughbred horses. With its impressive pedigree originating from Thailand, an area of the world where the martial art and the essential oils are renown, Athlon Rub Thai Oil formula seeks to bring a high quality product, made under the strictest controls from a reliable supplier to all sports. Although Thai Oil has traditionally been rubbed on the body as a warm-up aid before physical activity, it is also great to use after strenuous physical activity and during sport therapies. Several of the botanicals in the ingredients are recognized for their properties for pain relief, inflammation, and aid in increasing blood circulation in addition to the antibacterial properties which help protect skin from infections. Massage therapist / body work specialists working on athletes will benefit and better serve their clients from Athlon Rub, versus typical massage oils.

Athlon Rub's founder has been involved with Thai Oil for nearly 10 years and has experience registering Thai Oil with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He has been inside Thai Oil production facilities in Thailand and understands the local production and supply chain challenges. In addition to gaining Sport sanctioning approval for the use of Thai Oil during competition, he is currently an Advisory Board Member of the Martial Arts History Museum and an invited guest speaker on the topic at the Association of Combative Sport Commission (ACSC) Annual Conference.

The Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of a 4oz (120ml) bottle of Athlon Rub is $15.00 USD and will be available online at www.AthlonRub.com and with participating dealers. The new packaging consists of a recycled, shatter-proof, BPA free container that comes with a convenient pull-up top making it easier to carry and use. The natural color is non-staining and the beloved wintergreen scent is slightly reduced for indoor use.

Pete Foley's Black Dragon Kickboxing Club Celebrates 20 Years Of Promoting Success!

IKF IRELAND
Pete Foley's Black Dragon Kickboxing Club
celebrated their 20 year anniversary with an outstanding IKF Sanctioned show last Saturday night in prestigious fashion. "Clash In The Clayton 3" was held at the Clayton Hotel in Galway, Ireland. The event was nothing short of amazing! A full house was treated to 18 exciting bouts and one of them was an IKF Amateur World title. To add to the bouts, Foley and his team made sure the event had everything from beautiful ring girls, a first class MC, exciting DJ with a great sound system, outstanding trophies for the fighters which came from near & far and much more. For reference, the event was filmed by well known David Greeley who's an Ireland legend in the field. Local TV & Radio crews were also at the event to document the 20 year anniversary of Foley's Promotional Company.

The Main Event of the night though took center stage and it didn't disappoint. Paul "The Hurricane" Huish who fights out of Foley's Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club put on a stellar performance against the tough Dutch Thai Boxing specialist Dwane Panka from Amsterdam to claim the vacant IKF World Unified (K-1) Rules Lightweight title. Attaining the title was no easy task. Huish had his work cut out against Panka who had a sizeable reach advantage. However Huish's experience became a valuable asset as the rounds went on as he landed some spectacular shots on Panka. At the end of the contest, although both well marked up and bruised, both contenders looked as though they could do several more rounds as their fitness levels were outstanding. The capacity audience held their breadth as they awaited the announcement from MC Alan Mc Nevin. When he was handed the scorecards, Mc Nevin announced the new Champion of the Vacant Title as, "and the new IKF Lightweight K-1 champion of the World - in the ...... Red Corner Paul "the Hurricane" Huish! As expected from his hometown crowd, the announcement of Huish as the new Champion almost took the roof off the Clayton Hotel and Galway now had a new hero.

In all, it was not a bad nights work for one of Ireland's most successful Kickboxing clubs. "Myself and my wife Clodagh would like to say a big Thank You to everyone! Not only are we so super proud of our super fighters, but of every single member of our close knit team who worked so hard on the night to make it a night to remember for sure." Said Foley. "20 years went by in the blink of an eye and in that time, I've had the pleasure of working with some amazing people and turned a lot of them into champions - a lot of them have moved on or retired or left for one reason or another and a lot are still with us but one thing is for sure - you have all been an integral part of Black Dragon and important cogs in the wheel along the way, as without your input in some way or another, things may have been different. It's very difficult to keep absolutely everybody happy all the time and sometimes I may have failed in that department but it certainly wasn't for the want of trying and I guess as long as most people are happy, I've not done too bad a job. We have consistently trained high level fighters at Black Dragon and we will continue to do so as this is what defines us - our standards are high. Paul Huish, this was your night - we always knew what you were capable of and we never lost faith in your ability to shine and you turned out to be one of our finest - not just as a fighter, but as a person and a friend. Congrats champ and congrats to all our stars."

With the help of some great sponsors Foley's Team put on a fantastic event. Not to mention the fantastic treatment by management & staff of the Clayton Hotel who went out of their way to help with the birthday celebrations for Black Dragon. A lovely cake and messages from Foley's fantastic membership past & present was as well, just more "Icing on the Cake...".

"I would also like to thank our top class corner staff, door staff, security staff by delta, warm up staff, set up/down crew and excellent singer Tara who sang Amhrain Na Bhiann for the main event." said Foley. The show was also attended by Lord Mayor of Galway Councillor Frank Fahy, who spoke highly of everyone involved... Especially the part about Galway now has a new World Champion...

Here are the full results of the night.

Is Finally On SALE!!!

Don "The Dragon" Wilson

The Dragon Way features Don "The Dragon" Wilson
sharing his way of a healthy life-style, his way of Martial Arts & his way into the entertainment industry.

Don answers the top ten questions he's asked during his worldwide Seminar Tours and gives the Basics of the fight philosophy that allowed him to win 11 World Titles. It also explains the changes he made in his life-style at age 45 that enabled him to feel better at 61!

Don "The Dragon" Wilson is considered one of the Greatest Kickboxing Champions in the sport's history. A native of South Florida, Wilson began fighting in the late 1970s. In a career which spanned 4 decades, he won 11 World Kickboxing Titles

  1. 1999, IKF Cruiserweight World Champion (190 lbs.)

  3. 1988, ISKA Cruiserweight World Champion (182 lbs)
  4. 1984, STAR Super Light-Heavyweight World Champion (184 lbs)
  5. 1984, WKA Super Light-Heavyweight World Champion (184 lbs)

  10. 1980, STAR Light-Heavyweight World Champion (175 lbs)
  11. 1980, WKA Light-Heavyweight World Champion (175 lbs)

Over his career Don fought and defeated many Great fighters such as James Warring, Demetrius Edwards, Maurice Smith, Dennis Downey, Dennis Alexio, Branimir Cikatic, Mike Winkeljohn, Herb Thompson, Greg Smith, Muhammed Ashraf Tai, Panya Sornnoi, Pongdienoi Prasobchai, Rob Salazar, and a very controversial Draw against Jean-Yves Theriault which many thought Wilson clearly won.

On May 15th, 1999 in Lowell, Massachusetts, USA at 45 years of age, Wilson stepped back into the ring to fight for the vacant IKF Pro FCR Cruiserweight World Title against Dick Kimber for what is still this day, the highest kickboxing purse ever paid, $150,000.00 and some additional training expenses. Kimber swore to everyone that he'd have the fight over before the fifth round. However when the Dragon unloaded on Kimber in round three, Kimber dropped to the mat and referee Dan Stell counted him out on the floor. Kimber never stood during the count and to this date, Kimber never fought again. Having never been challenged for his title, Wilson voluntarily retired it several years later.

This is what is needed more in the sport…Promoters who care about the safety and well-being of the athletes as well as providing them the recognition they deserve.

Mr. Robinson was already working on his first Kickboxing event when he came across the IKF. He will be hosting his first event on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 at the National Guard Armory located at 395 North Pike West in Sumter, SC. Doors will open at 6:PM and Fights will start at 7:PM. Pete Foley's Black Dragon Kickboxing Club Presents
"IKF Junior Kickboxing"
Galway, Ireland

What a fantastic turnout for Pete Foley's Black Dragon Kickboxing Club's annual start of the year. The IKF Junior Kickboxing Show at Pete Foley's Black Dragon Kickboxing Club.

A huge turnout of over 180 kids from all over Ireland, but before we get into thanking all the clubs who supported the event, let us first give a massive thanks to all of the crew from Foley's Kickboxing Club who worked tirelessly all day, whether it was judging or refereeing or doing corners or timekeeping etc and they were: Clodagh Foley, Whitney Huish, Catherine Cullinan, Catherine Jennings, Paul Huish, Catherine Shannon, James Kelly, Cian Mc Cormack, Damien Creavin, Alex Fitzpatrick, Gary Manogue, Gerry King, Sinead Fitzpatrick and Leona Mc Cormack. (Hopefully we didn't leave anyone out...)

"Also, a good few of the above stayed back and helped clean the gym." (Said Foley) "So guys- from the heart - you're all so very much appreciated ????"

Huge thanks to Galways number one DJ, Black Dragon's very own big Pa Murphy who always gives the Black Dragon's his sound system for these Junior events and is a fantastic supporter all the time.

Now, on to the clubs who supported the event. A huge amount of IKF clubs were present and turned out in force and it was brilliant to see the talent in Ireland in the ranks. So to each and everyone of ye - a massive thanks & well done to: Na Fianna - Athlone, The Hub Kickboxing in Limerick, Nenagh Kickboxing, Limerick Combat, Black Dragon Tipperary, Billy O Sullivan's Gym in Waterford, Tipperary Fight Factory, Sean O Neill Fitness in Oldcastle, Co Meath, Deise Kickboxing in Dungarvan, Donegal Black Dragon, Colessium Gladiators in Dublin, Top Pro Gym in Kilkenny, Legends Gym in Bray, Top Pro Gym in Carlow and of course the 33 fighters from Black Dragon's own club.

It was also fantastic to see Leon Parsons crew there from Wolfpack in Athlone, Howie Vincent's squad from Shannon, Mike Allens club from Tralee and of course AR Kickboxing and Pa Griffens club from Galway who all brought great support and are always welcome at the Black Dragon shows. That's 20 clubs who can hold their heads up high. Who took the time on a Sunday to travel from all corners of Ireland to give their young future champions a fantastic experience in their chosen sport. It was heartwarming to see everyone working together and showing so much respect for their fellow competitors. Whether they won, lost or drew today as Martial Arts it was ALL about respect!!!

Thanks also to all the parents and friends who showed up in their droves and were very vocal in their support. The next big IKF event on the Martial Arts calendar is on 19 March in the Clayton Hotel, when local hero Paul "The Hurricane" Huish will attempt to become an IKF World Lightweight Unified Rules (K-1) Champion when he takes on Dutch Thaiboxer Dwane Panka from the renowned "Mejiro Gym" in Amsterdam.

The event will receive TV coverage and highlights will be shown on one of the Sky TV Channels. Tickets are on sale NOW from the Black Dragon Kickboxing Club or from any of the fighters on the card.

We are pleased to announce AK Promotions' new promotional partnership with the renown Alabama Theatre ( www.Alabama-Theatre.com) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

AK Promotions' and the Alabama Theatre will join forces to bring some of the most exciting Kickboxing entertainment the Grand Strand (Which is what they call the Myrtle Beach Area) has ever seen!

For those who might not have noticed, Kickboxing is experiencing a resurgence here in the USA. The proof of this is proven with announcements of both the new Bellator Kickboxing Division and their Spike TV presence along with the UFC's alignment with Glory Kickboxing. These two along with the long standing Lion Fight Promotion are clear signs the growth of Kickboxing and Muay Thai as "Stand-Up" Fight (Striking) sports is exploding.

Although we cannot reveal all of the exclusive details, what we can say is that the Grand Strand is about to look a lot like Las Vegas! The Theatre is equipped with State of the Art audio and lighting and plans are to take full advantage of theatrics as AK Promotions prepares for on-going televised events soon… to expand their audiences!

With a seating capacity of 1990+ and not a bad seat in the house, a huge stage that will not only occupy the ring but will seat over 100 VIP Ringside Guests, Grand Strand Fights - IKF Championship Kickboxing will soon be the number one show on the Grand Strand!

The aforementioned times, although unique to this area, have gone over very well in other tourist areas like Las Vegas and Atlantic City (Even on many of the IKF California Events) due to tourists on vacation and locals simply looking for something exciting to do…all day and night!

Moreover, many martial artist have done the day tournament scene for many years and now can enjoy some live full contact action during the day and preserve Saturday nights for other obligations.

When the Alabama Theatre of Myrtle Beach, opened in 1993, it was covered by major media including the CBS Morning Show, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America, CMT, TNN and countless national and regional publications. Alabama Theatre was even a question on the popular game show Jeopardy. With live acts like the group Alabama, Vince Gill, Josh Turner, Engelbert Humperdinck, Temptations & Four Tops and many more…The Alabama Theatre stands prominent in the Myrtle Beach Community and is a "must" on your to-do list when in area!

To add, The Alabama Theatre is proud to have been voted the Best Live Entertainment Theatre in Myrtle Beach, SC by both visitors and locals… numerous times!
