"Macclenny Fight Night"
March 20th, 2010 - Macclenny, Florida, USA

There are alot of promoters that are working hard in Florida to keep the sport of kickboxing alive and busy! Hardcore Promotions- Rocky Moore and Jerry Coker are two of them. I think it's impressive when a promoter just doesn't do one show a year but makes a commitment to do to 5 or 6 a year. We all know how much work that is. But it sure does give Florida fighters a venue to showcase their talents. Thanks Rocky and Jerry for the support of kickboxing.

Now about the fights.... I have to say I saw one of the best Knockouts I have seen in awhile. At only 12 seconds into the round 1 Danny Borale trained by Dominique Simmons from Elite Muay Thai in Port Orange, Florida landed a kick to the head which resulted in a KO. I heard alot of people say they missed it because it happened so fast... Yes, it was fast but it sure was pretty.

Did You Miss Sheppard's
WBC Title Fight?

No worries, because the date was moved to this Friday, March 19th. The bout was originally planned for Friday, March 12th. However, for unknown reasons, the date was moved out a week and will be on the Friday Nights Fights on ESPN II at the Choctaw Gaming Center in Durant, Oklahoma.

Mike will put his Pro Boxing record of 15-9-1 with 8 wins by KO's on the line against Chauncy Welliver of Auckland, New Zealand for the WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight Title. Welliver has an impressive record of 40-5-5 with 14 wins by KO. Sheppard has won his last 4 Pro Boxing bouts in a row, 2 by KO while Welliver has won his last 5, 2 by KO as well.

Sheppard (Above Right, KB: 20-6-1/15) of Palestine, West Virginia became the current IKF Pro FCR Cruiserweight World Champion when he defeated Antoine McRae of Elizabeth New Jersey by unanimous decision back on April 19th, 2008 in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA.

Hopefully the bout will be televised and if so, we will be watching Mike battling in the ring again. If not, we will be sure to look for the results. Good luck Champ and we hope to see you back kickin in that ring soon.

POSSIBLE TITLE DEFENSE?

Speaking of World Champion Sheppard, if anyone is interested to see a Great IKF Title defense by him, we spoke to former IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Light Heavyweight World Champion and IKF World Heavyweight International Rules Champion Rick "The Jet" Roufus today. Rick is looking for some more kickboxing and is more than willing to challenge Sheppard for his title. The only missing link would be the Promoter willing to make it happen.

We here at the IKF have some insight on the details to book such a defense (Purse, sanctioning discounts, etc.) so if there is an interested promoter out there, shoot us an e-mail at main@ikfkickboxing.com or give us a call at 916-663-2467 to discuss the details.

Roufus who is now living in Phoenix, Arizona, USA (KB: 64-9-1/41, Pro BX: 13-5-1/11, Pro MMA: 5-5) is currently the Stand-Up instructor at "The Lab" in Glendale Arizona. He had retired both his IKF Titles when he thought he was going to focus on Boxing and MMA. However, he has the itch to get back into kickboxing and we here at the IKF would like nothing more but to see these two Warriors go at it! Any takers who can "Make it Happen!" Let us know!

SPEAKING OF RICK ROUFUS...
- K-1 - STAND UP!

Back around 2003 at a K-1 event in Las Vegas, Rick suffered a knee injury in one of his bouts. Sadly, K-1 NEVER paid any of his medical bills. Bills that were sent to Rick, that he forwarded to K-1 event organizer Scott Coker's assistant who took care of all the business details of the event. Rick thought the bills had been paid... Until he tried to buy a house last year and was told he had $6,500.00 in unpaid medical bills out there that K-1 never paid for.

Coker was not the one responsible for the bills because he was just the event organizer. It was K-1 Japan that dropped the ball on this one and failed or neglected to pay Roufus' medical the, "As ALL Promoters are responsible for."

After some research into the issue, it was later found that Roufus' bills were not the only unpaid medical bills that were the responsibilities of the K-1 organization. Turns out, K-1 has quite a list of unpaid medical bills, purses and other fees. HOW could this be true? Well, sadly... It is.

Isn't it sad that an organization that has received so much praise in the world of kickboxing can leave great fighters like Roufus hanging out to dry and expecting him to pay his own medical bills. Hey, the bottom line here is a message to K-1... CONTACT ROUFUS AND PAY YOUR BILL! Then look into cleaning up your other financial issues with the many fighters we spoke to. Maybe this is the reason we don't see K-1 here in the USA anymore.

With everything else we found out when researching this, there is A LOT of other things we are certain K-1 doesn't want the public to know. Simply put, K-1 really needs to contact Roufus (602-319-9865 - roufuskickboxing@cox.net ) as quickly as they can and start working towards cleaning up their financial issues. if we hear they have done that, for all we care, that other information can stay in the closet.

However, ignoring financial responsibilities such as Rick Roufus' medical bills will only get a lot more hits on not just this news page web site, but dozens of others who are holding the info and awaiting to see what K-1 does in the coming weeks. If no action is taken to help Roufus as a start, the other big MMA Sites and some other fight news sites have informed us today that they are EAGER to open the closet door on a lot of shocking stories on K-1! So, "The ball is in your court K-1... FOR THE FIGHTERS and FOR THE SPORT... Serve it back with INTEGRITY PLEASE..."

MORE IKF NEWS...

IKF Worlds Champ Sheppard
Goes For WBC Title!

IKF Pro FCR Cruiserweight World Champion Mike Sheppard of Palestine, West Virginia (KB: 20-6-1/15) has been trying to stay busy since defeating Antoine McRae of Elizabeth New Jersey by unanimous decision to win his IKF title back on April 19th, 2008 in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA. although Sheppard has never been challenged for his IKF Title, he has fought for titles in other organizations, but not in his main rule style of above the waist full contact style. The only offers since winning his IKF title have come in rule styles he was not as good in such a leg kicks and Muay Thai.

Although he was fighting, he still needed to keep more busy as a fighter so instead of sitting by the phone waiting for challenges, he has been keeping busy in other fighting styles. A record of 2-1 as a Pro MMA fighter and a little work in the now defunct World Combat League (WCL) got him 2 more wins by KO. However MMA opportunities never really took off and the WCL, well, it just wasn't the REAL Fight Game he and other true full contact fighters were looking for, which explains why it was short lived. Sheppard, like other fighters needed to fill his hunger for the "REAL" fight game and since MMA was out of the picture for now and kickboxing just wasn't making his phone ring with Pro fight opportunities, he turned to the fight sport that has kept him busy since 1997, Boxing.

Sheppard has been doing quite well in the Pro Boxing world, so well that on this Friday nights, ESPN II in Oklahoma Mike will be fighting for the WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight Title. with a Pro Boxing record of 15-9-1 with 8 wins by KO, Mike will face Chauncy Welliver of Auckland, New Zealand at the Choctaw Gaming Center in Durant, Oklahoma in the 10 round bout. Welliver has an impressive record of 40-5-5 with 14 wins by KO. Last November he won the New Zealand National Boxing Federation (NZNBF) heavyweight title and also became the interim WBO Asia Pacific heavyweight Champion.

Sheppard has won his last 4 Pro Boxing bouts in a row, 2 by KO while Welliver has won his last 5, 2 by KO as well. Hopefully the bout will be televised and if so, we will be watching Mike battling in the ring again. If not, we will be sure to look for the results. Good luck Champ and we hope to see you back kickin in that ring soon.

AK Promotions and Tommy T's Announces
Future IKF Muay Thai / Kickboxing Shows

Starting Friday July 2nd At The Doubletree Hotel In Sacramento, CA!

AK Promotions and Tommy T's Comedy and Dinner Theater of Rancho Cordova, CA announced today that they will be posting two and possibly three more events on the IKF Event Calendar to end the year with a bang! After three successful shows in a six month period, AK Promotions' President Johnny Davis said he wanted to take a short break to evaluate the sports' status and the company's direction. But now, the AK Promotions' team is gearing up for what is to be more exciting IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing fights for the Sacramento Area!

Starting Friday night July 2nd ( 4th of July Weekend ) and followed with another show Friday September 3rd 2010 ( Labor Day Weekend). They are also looking at Friday, November 19th, but have not confirmed at press time.

AK Promotions' shows are always action-packed bouts of IKF Muay Thai / Kickboxing. Professional photography, video, ring girls etc. are always a part of this exciting production as they are looking at taking the sport to the next level!

Men and women will fight for the glory of the big win in front of family, friends and fight fans! The event will again feature rising star and IKF Muay Thai California Champion, T.J. Arcangle (right) of San Francisco, CA as the main event. T.J., now 7-0, is undoubtedly one of the best young up and coming Muay Thai technicians on the circuit. He knows all the tricks and seems to be getting better each time out. His Trainer, Kru Sam Phimsoutham makes it clear they are seeking bigger fish. Although only the California champ now, he's definitely looking at bigger fights and titles and is deserving as he has taken out everyone in his path and is now sitting behind number one contender Eric Parker (Left) of Tampa Florida who sports a 10-0 record with 6 wins by knockout in the IKF rankings. Parker is also the 2009 IKF World Classic Champion and won the title with 4 impressive first round KO/TKO's including his Championship bout with a Spinning Hook Kick.

As proven at last years IKF World Classic, Parker is an awesome kicker and knocks many of his opponents out with his trademark spinning hook kick. For sure, a clash for the IKF World title is in the air and will be a major collision between two superstars if it happens...that is... IF it happens...

Parker informed IKF HQ last month that he would like his next bout to be a Pro bout. However, he may be too busy with his new company Wintensity. Wintensity is an exciting new seminar program that focuses on the Psychology of Combat and Effective Mental Preparation, as an excellent, "cutting-edge" seminar, unlike any other seminar being offered in martial arts today. To read more about it click Here.

In the mean time, TJ will be looking to step up for the next title opportunity of West Coast or even a US title for the July 2nd show.( Feel free to send in suggestions for challengers to AK Promotions or the IKF.)

Other possible fighters on the card will be Sacramento's Jon Pryor ( left) who won the IKF West Coast Super Welterweight title in a dramatic knockout of former champion Bryan Padilla of Milpitas, CA. If confirmed, he will be looking for a challenger to defend the belt that he's been wanting around his waste for some time and willing to defend with all his might! (Any West Coast takers?)

Tough as nails, Daniel Hodges of Rocklin, CA (3- 1) is ready to step up a bit. He has scored two impressive knockouts in his last two fights and has the vacant IKF CA Welterweight ( 142.1 to 147 lbs) title in his sights.

Hugo Dominguez (Patterson, California, USA, 3-0, 211, 5'10" ) and is trained by Mitch Hermia is also looking to get a shot at a title soon as he has won his last three bouts and feels he is now ready to step it up a notch. Additionally, although not yet confirmed, the always tough female fighter Amy Castillo of Patterson, California, USA (2-0, 165, 5'11") and his also trained by Mitch Hermia is looking for her next opponent.

Fighters thinking of attending the 2010 IKF World Classic in Orlando, Florida on July 22nd, 23rd and 24th may want to keep in mind the possible 30 to 45 day suspension period that will be issued if they are knocked out or TKO'd.

A K Promotions' last event was a huge success and packed the Grand Ballroom of the Doubltree Hotel in Sacramento, CA. Those who were present, knew they were witnessing a special event. The event's success can only be attributed to the talented fighters, trainers and their committed camp's support that make the events successful. AKP is again looking forward to all of their support as they continue to find and build the next recognizable IKF Muay Thai / Kickboxing Champion!

AKP will be starting the matching around the first part of April. So, Look for the now matching e-mail soon. If you have fight ideas you would like to discuss for the two upcoming shows, sponsors etc. please contact Johnny Davis at (916) 205-4762 or by e-mail at johnnyd@akpromtions.org - See AK Promotions Press Page, Click Here.

The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club hosted a novice Kickboxing tournament on Sunday afternoon and it was a resounding success with clubs coming from all accross Ireland to gain invaluable experience for their fighters in a safe and comfortable environnment. 70 kickboxers took part in 35 contests out of which the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club had 23 fighters in action with a tally of 14 wins, 6 losses and 3 draws.

The fights were good, the matchmaking was good, the decisions were fair, the 200 spectators in attendance were very vocal and sporting and most importantly, there were no injuries - what more could you ask for. As a special treat Galways top Kickboxer and current European Super Middleweight champion Cathal Manning agreed to move up two weight divisions on 24 hours notice to take on Phelim Halligan an intermediate champion boxer from Mayo in an exibition match under Marquis of Queensbury rules.

This was a cracking contest which went the full 3 rounds with Manning taking a clear points victory. Manning will defend his European Kickboxing Title in Leisureland, Salthill against 5 Nations Champion Rob Burbridge from England on May 15th.

Big thanks goes to the set up crew who worked tirelessly throughout the day and also to the Order Of Malta, Dr. Maura Grummell, all the judges, referees, timekeepers and fight fans and indeed to the fighters themselves.

The Black Dragon club are starting a new kickboxing beginners course for adults this Tuesday at 7:PM and anybody interested should contact Pete Foley on 087 8119227.
